The BAUR SSG 500 Surge Voltage Generator is a compact high-voltage surge generator designed for pre-location and pinpointing of faults in underground power cables. It generates controlled surge voltages up to 16 kV, making it an ideal solution for cable fault location in low-voltage distribution networks.
The SSG-500 is commonly used as a cable fault thumper together with acoustic fault location systems. The high surge energy enables engineers to detect faults quickly and accurately in buried power cables.
A surge voltage generator (also known as a cable fault thumper) sends high-energy voltage pulses into a faulty cable. The surge causes an acoustic signal at the fault point, allowing technicians to accurately locate the fault using acoustic detection equipment.
The BAUR SSG 500 can be combined with cable fault locating systems such as time domain reflectometers and acoustic detectors for reliable fault pinpointing.
